Frequently Asked Questions

NOTARY SERVICES

What do I need to bring?
A current government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID) and your unsigned document. Please don't sign ahead of time; you'll sign in front of me.

My ID shows a different name or photo than how I look now. Can you still help?
Yes, and you won't be judged here. What matters is that your ID is valid and identifies you. Reach out before your appointment and we'll talk it through privately.

Can you tell me which document I need or help me fill it out?
Notaries can't give legal advice or choose documents for you. I verify identity, witness signatures, and administer oaths. For legal questions, an attorney or legal aid organization is the best place to start.

Do you come to me?
Yes. Mobile service is available around Fort Collins and Northern Colorado. Travel fees are quoted before your appointment.

How much does it cost?
$15 per notarized document. Travel, printing, and copies are separate and always disclosed up front. A sliding scale is available; just ask.

Do you do loan signings?
Yes. I'm a Notary Signing Agent and work with title and escrow companies, lenders, and signing services on refinances, purchases, HELOCs, and seller packages.

When are you available?
Every day, 9a-9p, including weekends.

APOSTILLES

What is an apostille?
An apostille is a certificate that confirms a document's signature or seal is authentic, so it will be accepted in another country that's part of the Hague Apostille Convention.

Who issues the apostille?
The Colorado Secretary of State issues apostilles for Colorado documents. Documents from another state go to that state, and federal documents like FBI background checks go to the U.S. Department of State. I'll help you figure out the right path.

Does my document need to be notarized first?
It depends. Birth and marriage certificates need to be certified copies from the issuing agency. Many personal documents, like affidavits or powers of attorney, need to be notarized first.

How long does it take?
Processing times vary, and mail requests to the state can take a while. Plan ahead if you have a travel or filing deadline.

Is the state fee included in your price?
No. The state's apostille fee is separate from my service fee. You'll get a full quote at your consultation.

I'm Kat Steele and I moved to Fort Collins 3 years ago from Texas to escape the terrible legislation aimed at the femme, queer, immigrant, and bipoc communities. I'm so worried about how our country is targeting the LGBTQAI+ community.

I know what it can feel like to need a service and not feel comfortable going to just anyone; they may not understand the situation or make judgements based on appearance. You can feel safe with me.
